Slice takes an interesting approach to one of the internet’s oldest business models: advertising. Instead of websites and advertising platforms capturing all of the value created by attention, Slice lets users receive a share of the revenue generated by ads shown during normal browsing. The browser extension is designed to work in the background. Once installed and connected to a Slice account, it can display low-key ads on supported pages, while the user earns “Slices” for eligible ad views. Those rewards can then be redeemed through options such as PayPal, Bitcoin Lightning or gift cards. What makes the model particularly interesting is the incentive alignment. Users are not being asked to complete a separate task every time they want to earn; the reward is attached to browsing activity they may already be doing. Earnings are naturally variable and depend on factors such as browsing activity and available ads, so Slice should be viewed as a passive-reward layer rather than a guaranteed income source. The broader idea is compelling: if online attention has economic value, sharing more of that value with the person generating the attention is a much fairer direction for digital advertising.
